Need A Good Doctor

How do I choose a plastic surgeon? I am trying to find a good one for breast implants but am overwhelmed by the choices. My stepmom set up an appointment for me with hers, but frankly I think her boobs look bad.  I met with another doctor who seemed nice and had a beautiful office, but he was way more expensive. Help!

Dear Tamecia,

I feel for you! It is a tough decision.  I recommend starting with the website of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (www.plasticsurgery.org).  There you will find a basic 5 point list on how to choose a plastic surgeon. Once you have found a doctor using that tool you can eliminate further by first visiting the individual surgeon websites to make sure they do the procedure you seek.  Look at before and after photos and do on-line searches for consumer comments about the surgeons work. Ask for referrals from friends who have already had surgery. Make sure to visit at least 3 different doctors! The more you visit the more of an educated decision you can make. Of course a nice office is important but that is just one small part of the medical practice. It is not always wise to go with the cheapest or the most expensive but rather one that feels right. Trust your gut.
