What Is Ultrasonic Liposuction Or Ultrasound-assisted Lipo?

What is ultrasonic liposuction or ultrasound-assisted lipo? Are they the same thing?

Ultrasonic liposuction and ultrasonic-assisted liposuction are the same thing. These are terms that are used to denote the same process. With ultrasonic liposuction, the cannula vibrates at 10,000 cycles per second; so fast that you can't see it move. Both use a pizelecrtic crystal to generate ultrasound which is very specific to fat dissolving. When the tip oscillates at such a high speed, the surrounding fat cells rupture, spilling their contents (which is like liquid oil) that is removed with suction. The advantage to ultrasonic liposuction is that fat that can be difficult to remove with standard liposuction because of tough fibrous tissue surrounding the fat is more effectively treated. Disadvantages include being slower, the scars are slightly longer, there tends to be more swelling and there is a risk of burning the skin since the cannula heats up as it vibrates.Ultrasonic liposuction was all the rage in the late 90's and it's popularity has gradually waned. I find it effective if tough areas such as male breasts (for gynecomastia), repeat liposuctions and some hips and abdomens. It is nice to have it available when you need it but in the majority of liposuction cases, standard tumescent liposuction is best.
